The air fryer comes to the rescue again with a quick, juicy main dish that is delicious with everything. The exterior of the tri tip gets incredibly crispy in the air fryer while the interior stays tender.

When you can have a fancy dinner in minutes, you know it’s going to be a win.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Tri Tip

  • Tri tip: You’ll need a tri tip around 1.25 pounds. If you have a large tri tip, you’ll need to air fry it a little longer.
  • Coffee rub: I seasoned the tri tip with my coffee rub. It’s super rich and really compliments beef well. You will not regret mixing up a batch of this delicious rub.

Prep Your Tri Tip

A big hunk of meat cooks best when the chill is off the meat. This means, it’s best if you grab it out of the fridge about 30 minutes before cooking. This will help it cook more evenly.

Rub the tri tip evenly on all sides with the coffee rub. Now it’s time to air fry.

Air Fryer Time

Place the prepped tri tip in the basket of your air fryer. The cook time will depend on how you prefer your beef cooked.

If you like a rare tri tip, you are aiming for 125 degrees. Prefer medium? You’ll want your internal temperature around 145 degrees. And for well, you’ll want it at 160 degrees.

The best way to ensure your meat is cooked to your preferred tempearture is using a digital meat thermometer. It’s one of my most used kitchen gadgets.

Set your air fryer to 400 degrees and cook for 8 minutes. Flip and cook for another 8 minutes. At this point, check the temperature. If it’s not cooked enough, cook up to 4 minutes more.

Let It Rest

Once the tri tip is done cooking, place it on a cutting board and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes. This will allow the juices to redistribute and keep it super juicy.

Thinly slice the tri tip against the grain and serve.

How To Serve Air Fryer Tri Tip

This tri tip is amazing on its own but if you want to step up your game, whip up a batch of chimichurri sauce to slather over it.

It’s also super tasty with some barbecue sauce.

Whip up a batch of mashed potatoes or smoked gouda macaroni and cheese to serve along side the tri tip. You won’t regret either choice.
