Have you ever made homemade croutons? They are a total game changer. Crispy exteriors and a bit of a chew in the middle. The store-bought version just can’t compete.
And they are easy to make at home too. I have a simple croutons recipe I’ve been making for years but I thought why not make things even easier and quicker with an air fryer version.
Here’s what you need to make homemade croutons in the air fryer:
Have stale bread lying around? That’s perfect to use for these croutons. Stale bread actually works better but if all you have is fresh that’s totally fine too.
You can use any kind of bread you have at home for these because it’s all going to be good. I’ve made them with regular sandwich bread, leftover baguette, French bread and more. They all turn out delicious.
As far as spices go, I kept it very basic so that these air fryer croutons can be super versatile. That said, you can definitely change out or add in additional spices accordingly.
If you’re doing an Italian salad, add in some basil, oregano or your favorite Italian seasoning.
Making a Mexican inspired salad? Add cumin and chili powder to bring even more flavor.
How to Make Air Fryer Croutons
First gather your ingredients and preheat your air fryer if needed.
Dice bread into 1/2-inch chunks. Try to keep the size uniform to ensure they cook evenly.
Toss the bread cubes with olive oil then season with the garlic powder, onion powder and salt.
Place them in the air fryer and cook for 6 minutes, shaking halfway through the cooking time.
That’s it. They are so easy and turn out so perfectly crispy.

Air Fryer Croutons
- 3 cups bread cubes, 1/2-inch
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp. onion powder
- Toss bread cubes in the olive oil. Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder and onion powder and toss again until coated.
- Place in air fryer basket and cook at 350 degrees F for 6 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time.
