Have you ever wondered why monkey bread is called monkey bread? I actually recently discovered the reason on The Great British Baking Show. It claimed its name because of the way it is eaten. You pick at the little pieces of dough like a monkey would pick at something, hence monkey bread.
Now that the name makes a little sense, let’s dive into this delicious fall recipe.

Ingredients for Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie Monkey Bread
Rhodes cinnamon rolls: Rhodes cinnamon rolls are the star of this recipe and what makes it so simple to make. They are perfectly yeast and filled with warm cinnamon.
Apple pie filling: Grab a can of your favorite apple pie filling, or make your own if you’re feeling up for it.
And that’s literally all you need to make brunch stunner.
Rise the Cinnamon Rolls and Assemble
About two to three hours before you want to bake your apple pie monkey bread, grab out your frozen Rhodes cinnamon rolls. Lay them out in a greased pan and cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and place them in a warm spot.

Allow the rolls to thaw and rise. They do not have to be fully risen so don’t worry. We basically want to make sure they are thawed and just a bit puffy.
Slice six cinnamon rolls into quarters then place in a greased bundt pan. Make sure it’s well coated as the rolls will stick to the pan easily.

Layer the apple pie filling evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces. Cut the remaining cinnamon rolls in quarters and place over the apples.

Bake, Frost and Serve Apple Pie Monkey Bread
Bake apple pie monkey bread until golden and no longer gooey. Once it’s done, place your serving platter over the top of your bundt pan and flip to release your monkey bread.
At this point you can frost it with the icing included with the cinnamon rolls and enjoy right away. The icing will get melty but that’s our favorite way to enjoy this monkey bread. If you want the icing to be thicker and keep it’s shape, allow the monkey bread to cool for about 30 minutes before frosting and serving.
The cinnamon rolls come with two packages of icing so feel free to use as much or as little as you like. For reference, I used one package on the monkey bread pictured but kept the second for people to add more as desired.

How to Store
If you have any leftovers, place them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to three days. When you’re ready to enjoy them, place in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds then enjoy.
