I love a good diy ingredient and this garlic infused olive oil is a current favorite. It’s so simple to make and packs such a punch of flavor.

Whether you’re making it to have at home for all your daily cooking needs or as a gift to a loved one, this will quickly become a go to recipe once you try it.

Ingredients for Garlic Infused Olive Oil

  • Olive oil: You’ll want a good quality extra virgin olive oil for this recipe.
  • Fresh garlic: For every cup of infused olive oil you make, you’ll need 8 cloves of garlic. It’s really important to use fresh garlic and not the minced jarred garlic you can get in the produce section. The jarred stuff will yield a bitter, unflavorful oil.

How to Infuse Olive Oil

Grab a small saucepan and heat it over medium low heat. Add the olive oil and allow it to warm.

Once it’s warmed, add the smashed garlic cloves. Bump up the heat slightly until it starts to very gently simmer. Keep it at this level and cook for 10 minutes.

Once the time is up, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow to cool to room temperature. Pour into a glass bottle and seal. Use as desired.

Uses for Infused Olive Oil

There are lots of delicious uses for this garlic infused olive oil. Use it in place of any of your savory recipes. Keep it simple by using it to saute chicken. Or get fancy and drizzle it over your homemade white pizza.

It’s great in dressings, marinades and sauces for an extra kick of garlicky flavor.

I especially love dipping my favorite homemade french bread in this garlic olive oil.

Additional Flavors for Infusion

Not feeling garlic? There are lots of different options for infused olive oil. Here’s some of my favorite options:

  • Chili infused olive oil: use a tablespoon of red chili flakes or a handful of dried chilis.
  • Rosemary olive oil: add two large stems of fresh rosemary to the olive oil.
  • Citrus olive oil: carefully cut pieces of orange or lemon peel and add to the oil. Make sure you don’t get any white parts of the citrus peel as they are bitter.
  • Basil olive oil: add 10 fresh basil leaves to the olive oil.
  • Jalapeno olive oil: Slice one fresh jalapeno and add to the oil. Strain after infusion to remove any seeds.

If you choose to make one of these flavors, prepare in the same way as instructed in the recipe card below.

The Perfect Homemade Gift

Do you have a big foodie in your life? This is such a fun, unique gift to give to friends, family or neighbors. Heck, skip the cookies this year and give flavorful olive oil instead.

Grab a fun little basket and a pretty kitchen towel. Drape the towel in the bakset and place the bottle of homemade garlic infused olive oil inside. I love these bottles for this recipe and homemade vanilla extract.

Make sure to tie a pretty ribbon or bow around the bottle and add a cute tag so the recipient knows what they are being gifted.

How to Store

It’s best to store the infused olive oil in the refrigerator. This ensures bacteria won’t grow. It will be good for up to a month when stored this way.

If you want to keep it at room temperature, be sure to use within two weeks of infusing.
