As you can probably tell by now, I’m kind of obsessed with making my own seasoning mixes and rubs. It’s just so easy and you have complete control over the flavor and spice level.

That is especially true with this homemade Taco Seasoning Mix.

So Easy to Make at Home

You will never buy another package of taco seasoning again after trying this simple homemade version.  Not only is it super cheap to make but it tastes fresher than any store bought packet.

Another bonus: there aren’t any weird ingredients, chemicals or “natural flavors.”

My favorite thing about making this recipe is being able to decide on the spice factor. If I’m making it for the whole family I make the recipe as it is written.

But if it’s just for adults I may add a little extra chili powder or a few pinches of cayenne pepper to add more spice.

Ingredients for Taco Seasoning Mix

  • Chili powder: This makes up a large part of the seasoning mix so make sure to use a good quality chili powder. You can buy different spice levels of chili powder so keep that in mind when you are shopping. I like a medium chili powder for a little spiciness.
  • Cumin: I am all about the cumin. It adds delicious smokiness to the mix and tons of flavor.
  • Garlic powder: Brings all the flavor.
  • Onion powder: Adds a yummy onion flavor to the seasoning mix.
  • Dried oregano: Adds an aromatic, earthy flavor.
  • Paprika: More smokiness comes through because of the paprika. It also adds a gorgeous color to the mix.

It’s Always Taco Time

This recipe uses super simple, common pantry staples that I’m betting you already have at home. And if you don’t they are easy to pick up at any grocery store on your next food run.

Once you have all your ingredients collected simply mix it up and store it in an airtight container. You can keep it stored this way for up to 9 months.

You’ll need about 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning per 1 pound of meat so assuming you make that amount for dinner this recipe will make you tacos 4 times.

If you’re a big taco fan, double or triple the recipe below to make taco night even easier.
