The sun is shining, there are birds chirping. It’s slowly warming up and everything feels right in the world.

When the weather is warm, and let me tell you 45 degrees feels warm after a few months of single digits, I immediately want to fire up the grill or smoker for some barbecue.

We’re not quite at barbecue temperatures but I couldn’t stop myself from whipping up a new bbq sauce in anticipation of spring and summer.

And what better way to bring the warm weather vibes than with some tropical pineapple?

Because fresh pineapple isn’t the greatest in stores right now, this barbecue sauce uses a small can of pineapple tidbits with the juice to bring the pineapple flavor. Since we’re using both the fruit and the juice, the sauce is really concentrated with pineapple goodness.

To balance out the sweetness a bit, there’s vinegar, mustard and Worcestershire sauce added for some tang and depth. The tomato base of the sauce comes from good ‘ole ketchup. Lastly, a little garlic powder and chili powder are added for more flavor and balance.

This Pineapple BBQ Sauce couldn’t get easier to make either. Mix everything up in a saucepan then simmer for 20 minutes. After it has simmered, it will be thickened and the pineapple will be softer.

It will still be really chunky from the pineapple tidbits so you have two options here. You can blend it right in the pan like I did with my immersion blender or you can transfer it to a blender and process it to your desired consistency.

Once it’s as smooth as you like it, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few weeks. Though I don’t think it will last that long.

Since our grill still has a decent amount of snow cover, I opted for an indoor option using this sauce and I can’t wait to share it with you all in a few weeks. You aren’t going to want to miss it. At a little less than 30 minutes, it’ll become a new favorite in your weeknight rotation.

And once the weather warms enough to dig out the grills, this Pineapple BBQ Sauce will be amazing on grilled chicken and pork chops too.
